Description
Beautiful antique toile de Nantes from 1830’s make these two cushions. Possibly from the Faure and PetitPierre Manufacture. This fabric originally would most probably have been made as a furnishing fabric to decorate a bedroom scene and maybe hang on a four poster bed. The details of nature and the wedding scenes are so fine and elaborate.
Nantes (in the west of France ) became an important centre producing plate- printed cottons and also situated in a great place for export.
Many designs were based on engravings of well known artists and adapted to the times.
a couple of small little holes in the fabric consistent with age. The backing fabric is a mixes linen and cotton furnishing fabric in complementary colours.
